Radar level meter is a highly reliable, non-contact measuring instrument. It is precisely because of the characteristics of non-contact measurement that the instrument is not in direct contact with the measured medium. To a certain extent, the problem of inaccurate measurement or even impossible measurement caused by the pollution and corrosion of most plug-in instruments is avoided. Nevertheless, due to the precise and complex structure of the radar level meter, if it is operated improperly or lacks maintenance in application, it will also lead to frequent instrument failures and affect normal measurement. Generally speaking, there are three common problems in the measurement of radar level meter:
1、 Antenna scar of radar level meter
Common problems: generally, the phenomenon of material hanging with low dielectric constant has no effect on the instrument measurement in dry state, but the phenomenon of material hanging with high dielectric constant often leads to inaccurate measurement results.
Solution: in view of this situation, it is recommended to use compressed air purging or clean water flushing to remove the hanging of materials. If the scarring is stubborn, use acid cleaning solution to clean the alkaline scarring dirt in time, but stop measuring the material level during the cleaning.
2、 The antenna of radar level meter is submerged
Common problems: the antenna of the radar level meter is easy to be submerged by materials, affecting the measurement effect and easily causing damage to the probe.
Solution: it is suggested to change the radar level meter to guided wave tube measurement, which can improve the measurement conditions and improve the measurement performance of the instrument.
The specific method is to install a guided wave tube type radar level meter at the original opening, and the guided wave tube is about 0.2m higher than the exhaust pipe. In this way, even if the slurry overflows from the exhaust pipe, the antenna of the level meter will not be submerged by the slurry, and the interference of the stirrer vortex and a large amount of steam emerging from the probe are avoided, reducing the damage to the probe. At the same time, because the guided wave tube has a good focusing effect, the received radar wave signal is stronger, Good measurement results have been obtained.
3、 The probe of radar level meter is scaling and scarring
Common problems: when the probe of the radar level meter is scaling or scarring, the electromagnetic wave signal of the radar level meter is blocked, which is easy to cause the radar level meter failure
Solution: it can be avoided by raising the installation position of the probe. If it cannot be improved due to the installation conditions, it should be solved by interlocking the measured value of the material level with the pump of the tank, specifically reducing the set value of the highest material level by about 0.5m. When the material level reaches the highest value, the feed pump can be stopped or the discharge pump can be started.
In addition to the failure of radar level meter caused by the blocking of the above electromagnetic wave signal, the normal measurement of radar level meter may also be affected by the medium form. For example, if there is foam on the surface of the tested material in actual working conditions, if it is dry foam or wet foam, the radar wave can reflect normally. However, if the foam is too thick and sticky, the measurement error may be large or it cannot be measured. If this is the case, the radar level meter does not have measurement advantages, and it is recommended to replace the measuring instrument.
Therefore, generally speaking, if the measurement data of the radar level meter is inaccurate, it can be basically judged that the cause of the fault is that the electromagnetic wave signal is blocked due to some influence and is not transmitted to the actual level surface. The instrument staff are responsible for timely handling the common faults of radar level meter, and are more obligated to pay attention to proper maintenance of the instrument at ordinary times, so as to ensure the normal and safe use of the instrument.
Reasons for error of radar level meter
1: Measurement dead zone:
The output of radar level meter in measurement is 4 ~ 20mA current. Due to the measured medium itself and the probe, there are two dead zones in its measurement, namely upper dead zone and lower dead zone. The minimum distance that can be measured between the liquid level in the upper dead zone and the upper reference point is about 0.1M ~ 0.5m; The lower dead zone is the part at the bottom of the probe where the measurement results do not change with the change of the real liquid level in the storage tank.
2: Error caused by measured medium:
When measuring the boundary, it is required that the dielectric constant of the upper liquid must be 10 greater than that of the lower liquid. If the dielectric constants of the two interfaces are not much different, they will become wave patterns. During measurement, since the time taken for the liquid level and the boundary is basically the same, the two returned signals will overlap and affect the measurement results.
3: The measured liquid viscosity is too large:
The medium has a high viscosity. Such liquid medium is likely to adhere to the probe, affecting the transmission of signals and causing errors in measurement. If the viscosity is higher, the medium will be connected with the probe. At this time, the probe must be cleaned regularly.
4: Error of radar level meter itself:
The radar level meter adopts radar technology, and most of the errors come from the installation on site.
5. Radar echo anomaly caused by rough inner wall of waveguide
The installation requirements of radar level meter with waveguide are relatively high, especially the smoothness of the inner wall of waveguide. It is recommended that the waveguide be made of stainless steel, and the plug-in welding method shall be adopted when the waveguide is welded.
In order to effectively avoid these possible problems, precautions should be taken when installing radar liquid level meter:
1. When installing the radar liquid level meter, the feed inlet, feed curtain and vortex shall be avoided, because the false echo with amplitude much larger than the effective echo reflected by the measured liquid level will be generated when the medium is injected. At the same time, the irregular liquid level caused by the vortex will scatter the microwave signal, thus causing the attenuation of the effective signal, so we should avoid them;
2. For vessels with agitators, the installation position of radar liquid level gauge should not be near the agitator, because irregular vortex will be generated during mixing, which will cause attenuation of radar signal. At the same time, the blades of the stirrer will also cause false echoes to the microwave signal, especially when the relative dielectric constant of the measured object is small and the liquid level is low, the influence of the stirrer is more serious;
3. When the radar liquid level gauge is used to measure the liquid level of corrosive and crystallizable objects, in order to prevent the influence of the medium on the sensor, the manufacturer generally adopts the structure with polytetrafluoroethylene measurement window and separation flange. The temperature of these parts shall not be too high, and the temperature of polytetrafluoroethylene shall be 200 ℃. In order to avoid the influence of high temperature on the radar antenna and prevent the crystal on the diaphragm from affecting the normal operation of the instrument, a safe distance of at least 100-800mm is required between the flange end face and the high liquid level.
